JNC-UNESCO functions through a Secretariat headed by the Secretary General and a Commission under the Chairmanship of Hon Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment & Sport

JNC-UNESCO work towards the development of Jamaica through UNESCO

Advise the Government of Jamaica on issues relevant to UNESCO’s objectives through active engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)
Supports UNESCO projects within the country
Publicize UNESCO Participation Programme, grants and educational opportunities
Collaborate with the UNESCO Cluster Office for the Caribbean, located in Jamaica

While promoting the free flow of ideas and
advancing the mutual understanding of all people.

Nominate up to three individuals, institutions, or organizations making strong, innovative contributions to girls’ and women’s education FOR UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education now open for 2024 nominations. The Prize awards US$ 50,000 annually to two laureates.
