Caribbean Biosphere Reserves Tour, 2009

February-March 2009: The Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO is spearheading efforts towards establishing Biosphere Reserves in the English Speaking Caribbean. A Caribbean regional tour was conducted to engage stakeholders on the importance of biospheres. Three countries were visited: St.Kitts and Nevis, St.Lucia and Dominica. The visit forms part of the efforts by UNESCO to establish biosphere reserves in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Four countries: St. Lucia, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica, are presently preparing nominations for Biosphere Reserves. St. Kitts and Nevis is working on the Keys Beach area Programme while Jamaica is looking at the Portland Bight and the Rio Bueno Valley.
