Veronica Campbell-Brown, a UNESCO Champion for Sport
Jamaican sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown, winner of five Olympic medals, was designated a UNESCO Champion for Sport on 13 October 2009 at the Organization’s Headquarters. The ceremony was held in the presence of Olivia Grange, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture.
She is the first woman from the Americas to be appointed a UNESCO Champion for Sport and has taken on the mission of Gender Equality in Sports. Usain Bolt who was also nominated declined the appointment.
