Cheryl M.L. Brown passing/tribute 4 April 1948-7 March 2021

The Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO regrets the untimely passing of Cheryl Brown, former member of the National Commission, founder member of the National Bioethics Committee of Jamaica and representative to the International Bioethics Committee and Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee (IGBC).

Ms Brown, a lawyer by profession, contributed immensely to the establishing of the first National Bioethics Committee in the English-speaking Caribbean, and later served with distinction as a member. She was appointed by the Director General of UNESCO in 2007 as a member of the IGBC and then International Bioethics Committee where she served until 2017.

The National Commission for UNESCO will miss her jovial yet combative spirit and warm endearing personality.

Condolences to her family, friends and to the many on whose lives she impacted. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
