Passing of Dr. Simon Alanzo Clarke, OD

Hon Minister Olivia Grange, Chairperson of the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO, members of the Board and staff mourns the passing of Dr. Simon Alanzo Clarke, OD, distinguished educator and strong Garveyite, a humble and dedicated servant of the people.

During this difficult time we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

He could be described as a UNESCO man, his duties went beyond the borders of Jamaica – He was a former Director and Education Advisor for the UNESCO Cluster Office for the Caribbean (1987-97). He was Jamaica’s representative on the Executive Board of UNESCO, Paris and Vice President, International Bureau of Education, Geneva, representing Latin America and the Caribbean.
